One week in

The build has now been going for one week. It hasn’t all gone totally smoothly but not far from it: we’ve lost our phone line, our personal street lamp, our porch, the patio, and the last vestige of a drive surface. We’ve gained a new front door with added ventilation (there’s no letterbox, just a hole!), foundations, and a lot of dust.

Day one
Machinery and things arrive on site, wall gets (partly) knocked down.

Day two
The rest of the very strong wall is removed, patio comes up. Rob cut through a wire – thankfully only the home phone and the internet connection is unaffected.

Day three
Eloise and Spencer help dig the foundations.

Foundations

Day four
Sunday – the builders have day off.

Day five: Bank Holiday Monday but no stopping our builders
More foundations, removing quite a lot of earth (exposing and putting a hole in the drainage pipes in the process).
Digging down

Day six
Porch knocked down, new front door, foundations now almost complete so we have an old door as a bridge across the foundations to get to the front door.

Day seven
Concrete poured into foundations (with some weird polystyrene-looking things specified by building control because of the clay)
