Nearly ready for the roof

Ready for ceiling joists, floorboards and the roof

This week coming the roof should be built (or started, at least).  The second floor walls and windows are now all in place and materials for the ceiling joists/second floor floorboards and for the roof are mounting up.

Last Sunday night, Neil piped up that he thought the proposed family bathroom wasn’t going to be big enough. After we’d looked at the plans and the length of the bath that we are likely to want, I had to agree that it would be better to make it a little bigger. Unfortunately we had missed the optimum time to make this change as the window for the en-suite shower room had already been created where we now want to put the internal wall. Thankfully it wasn’t a big change to move it at this point and hopefully we won’t be making too many more deviations from the plans. Having said that, half of the windows are now different from the drawings: the difference was that we’d thought about all the others and discussed the changes with Steve before they’d started to be built.

As the roof is due to be built very soon, Steve advised that it would create a lot of dust and disturbance to the rooms on the top floor. As one of the key methods of getting stuff out of the way from downstairs had been to put it in the spare room, this meant a busy weekend of sorting and moving things. I am currently aching from a good number of hours of going through assorted papers, books, bedding, clothing, CDs, electrical equipment, games, toys, baby kit…  Definitely achieved something though and it was good timing for both E & S to have a long nap.
