The end of last week saw the carpenters finishing the first floor joists and laying the first floor. They’ve used waterproof flooring so that the builders can now work on it to carry on building up. Once the utility room was removed, the foundations were quickly created for the supporting pier and the pier built ready to take the weight of the RSJs (reinforced steel joist, in case you were wondering).
The whole of the back wall of the house has also now been removed and the first RSJ is in place (which took Steve and Rob all day yesterday, Spencer had booked the day off way in advance and it was just unfortunate timing for the other two who report having pulled every muscle they possess lifting the 400kg galvanised beam into place). The house is certainly well ventilated at the moment with the back wall missing and holes in place for the next beam to slot into.
