A week away and lots of progress

Main room

We had a week away and what a week it was… Not a great deal of sunshine was to be found in Brittany but we still made it to the beach every day and the kids enjoyed plenty of time jumping on their uncles whatever the weather. Celebrating Mum and Dad’s 40th wedding anniversary was a welcome break from the decisions and trips to flooring shops, tile shops etc and we were greeted with great progress at the house when we returned.

The windows are now all in place, the front door is in and patio door has been boarded up, the internal walls have been removed and the first fix electrics and plumbing are almost finished. The builders were putting up the plasterboard when we went to have a look at the progress yesterday. Almost all of the internal demolition has been completed including our late addition of removing the chimney breast from the area formerly known as the dining room. I’ve now swotted up on party wall legislation as well as extending my knowledge of building terminology. (If I’d had to guess what screed was, I’d probably have gone with a type of hat…)

The biggest change for us is that the removal of the internal walls has shown the size of the new kitchen/family room – exciting!
