Patio doors and painting

Painting

The patio doors are in! Hooray! We seem to have been waiting for them for a long time but they arrived just in time to stop me getting trapped in the house. The (brand new) front door locking mechanism stopped working whilst I was inside the house on Thursday and I couldn’t open the door at all. I didn’t have the keys to the side door with me and had about 30 seconds until I needed to pick Spencer up from Pre School. Thankfully the patio doors were sliding beautifully and I could open the front door from outside to get back in and lock the patio doors before arriving only slightly late to get Spencer. They still have protective plastic on in parts but generally look great. We’re really pleased with the light coming in.

The dining room ceiling has also gone up which makes the room seem far more complete. The plasterers said the original beams were anything but level so had quite a job to make it flat and smooth. Probably not surprising in a house that’s 150 years old. The missing section of floor has also been dug up and concreted ready for the screed to go down this week. I had a bit of a schedule chat with the builder last weekend as we were very close to everything slipping behind which would mean missing our kitchen fitting window and having to stay in the rental place for longer… Nooo! Anything but that. Thankfully he went from seeming to have no sense of urgency (the builders weren’t due to be on site for the whole week) to getting them in the next day to sort things out. We had a brief moment of panic when Eloise first saw the patio doors and ran towards them in gleeful excitement – straight onto the concrete. It had dried. She didn’t get stuck in it or leave little footprints all through it… phew.

Lots of hands make light work
Neil has started on the painting with the mist coat done in the bathroom and half done in Eloise’s room. The shower tray is in place in the bathroom ready for the flooring to go down on Wednesday. I finally found a Karndean flooring fitter who was happy to fit flooring that we provided (not as easy as that sounds) and he then turned out to have the flooring that we wanted left over from his last job so it’s worked out really well. The bathroom floor will be down on Wednesday and then we need to get cracking with the tiling. I’m meeting the tiler on Monday so hoping for some speedy availability and bargain prices (hmmm…).
