We have lights, and a kitchen, and a countdown! Two weeks tomorrow…
The kitchen is in: it didn’t go entirely without a hitch (what does?!) but thankfully wasn’t held up by the Aga having been installed in the wrong place… The Aga installers were having a bad day when they came to install the Aga and must have been in a rush: they misread 1040mm as 1400mm and so installed the Aga 360mm to the left of where it should be. They were very quick to rectify their mistake and so this was corrected the same day it was noticed.

We were waiting for the kitchen to be installed before deciding on the final colour that it will be painted (on the recommendation of the kitchen company, as we had no way of knowing the light in the room etc etc) and are now almost certain that it will be pearl ashes (Aga grey). When Mum and Dad came to look round, I may have been a little bit mean to Mum and not told her that it was getting painted. Credit to Mum that she managed not to say “it’s a horrible colour combination” when she clearly desperately wanted to!
The electrics are pretty much finished; the plumbing is due to be finished this week; the carpenter is working his way through the house adding balustrades, skirting, architraves (yes, I do know what this means. No, I didn’t previously. See also: screed, soffit and fascia) and doors. The carpenter should be finished upstairs with just enough time for the decorator to paint the skirting boards before the carpet arrives. The pressure is on as we have a move in day: 2 weeks tomorrow. I cannot wait to get back in.
We also have flooring in the en-suite and the downstairs toilet. The carpet for most of the upstairs has been ordered and that just leaves the utility room flooring to be done. Half the blinds have been ordered, the utility room units will be arriving next week, and appliances the week after. I love it when a plan comes together!
