February: Progress outside and building regulation irritation

The good news is that work started on the patio and the drive and all was progressing as it should. The only problem was that our own personal lamppost was hit by a grabber truck or skip and nobody claimed responsibility. This led to a driveway scattered with broken glass and a lantern to replace.

The not so good was that the building inspector had a look round and told us that we needed to replace 5 doors with fire doors due to the “new staircase”. Even when he accepted that there was no new staircase he was still adamant about the fire doors. He also noted a number of other things that needed changing but all other bits were relatively minor. Ed the electrician managed to put in the missing extractor fan in his own inimitable style: with many additional holes in the walls. He also managed to make as much of a meal of moving two smoke alarms by ten centimetres as you could imagine.

Very neat mud. It probably has a proper name that I've forgotten.
