It did get finished…

The majority of the house, garden and patio was finished in April 2016 (although the utility room didn’t actually get painted until we were looking to sell the house in 2020!). Here’s a few pictures of the end result for posterity.

March: are we nearly there yet?

We’re so close to being finished but are we actually finished? Will we ever be, that is the question… Outside is finished: the driveway and patio are now completed. Hooray! The external lights are all up and working (despite needing a second visit to change the wiring around). The new walls and planters have been […]

February: Progress outside and building regulation irritation

The good news is that work started on the patio and the drive and all was progressing as it should. The only problem was that our own personal lamppost was hit by a grabber truck or skip and nobody claimed responsibility. This led to a driveway scattered with broken glass and a lantern to replace. […]

New Year, new carpentry, bye bye garage

January saw the return of many of the different trades. The carpenters were back to build cupboards under the stairs, storage in the study and wardrobes in the bedroom. The electricians had a few bits and pieces to do. The plumbers had a couple of leaks to fix. The garage was knocked down and there […]

Bumping heads and cutting it fine for Christmas

Scaffolidng heaven

I took a break from this blog once we’d got back in the house as it all seemed so close to being finished. But actually we still had a long way to go! Despite the fact that the house was far from finished in December we still managed to fit in a fair bit of […]

We’re in: in the house, in chaos, insane?

Last week was a very exciting week and we managed it: we’ve moved back in. Hooray! It’s great to be back although it would have been easier if everything had been completed before we moved back in. To be frank, though, if we’d waited for everything to be finished we’d probably be moving back in […]

Is anything finished? Um, no…

Kitchen worktop

With just one week til we move back in, is it ambitious to think that there might be a room that was ready? Apparently, yes! To be fair, one room (the en-suite) is completed it’s just that the heating/water/something needs to be turned on before it can all be used. And Eloise’s room is very […]

Lights, kitchen, action!

Kitchen

We have lights, and a kitchen, and a countdown! Two weeks tomorrow… The kitchen is in: it didn’t go entirely without a hitch (what does?!) but thankfully wasn’t held up by the Aga having been installed in the wrong place… The Aga installers were having a bad day when they came to install the Aga […]

Online shopping; many, many deliveries and decorating

Father and son painting team

I may have had a serious case of online shoppingitis. The only downside of this vicious disease (other than the effect on our bank balance) is the amount of deliveries that follow. We now have a lot of boxes waiting to be unpacked and installed next week. The kitchen fitters start on Monday – yeah! […]

Aga love

Aga

Oooooh, we’ve got a lovely new Aga. The delivery guys for Aga seem to be a class above all of the other delivery men I’ve met recently. Despite the Aga not fitting in through either the front door or down the side of the house due to obstructive scaffolding, the delivery men got the Aga […]
